Arte & Lusso, an online magazine on art, fashion and luxury in the UAE and Italy, featured Almaz, Rima Chahine’s 2023 solo exhibition at Andakulova Gallery in DIFC, Dubai.
The paintings featured
The article is illustrated with six works from the exhibition. Together they show the range of the show, and all six are on this page, each with its own page, size, year and price.
- Cardiac, 2018, 100 × 100 cm: colour in rhythm and movement.
- Endearment, 2018, 100 × 100 cm: warm, close hues, a painting about affection.
- Beauty, 2018, 100 × 100 cm: bold colours, forms and textures, true to its name.
- The Aftermath, 2018, 120 × 150 cm: dark, muted tones and the weight of what is left behind.
- Sun Chasing, 2018, 100 × 100 cm: yellows, oranges and reds glowing against a soft blue.
- Naked, 2019, 60 × 75 cm: the smallest of the six, a close field of deep blues.
The story behind them
The piece follows Rima from a difficult period, raising two young sons alone in a foreign country, to the healing she found through introspection and forgiveness, and it describes her style as fearless and impressionistic, carried by vivid colour and bold brushstrokes.
East and West
It presents her Lebanese-Canadian background as a meeting of East and West, in step with Andakulova Gallery’s mission of dialogue between the Middle East and Central Asia, and mentions her earlier recognition in Harper’s Bazaar Art.
Arte & Lusso and Rima
The magazine returned to her work later that year with a feature on Euphoria, her third solo exhibition in Dubai.
