Ahead of Almaz, her 2023 solo exhibition at Andakulova Gallery in DIFC, Gulf Today published a feature on Rima Chahine by its features writer Muhammad Yusuf on 27 April 2023.

It introduced her as a self-taught Lebanese-Canadian painter who explores the human condition through vivid colour and bold brushstrokes, and a winner in the Abstract Art category of the Global Art Awards 2018. It also noted what she says herself: that she has always followed her own path, never rules or conventions.

Her life in the work

The article follows the thread from her life to her paintings. Separation, and raising two young sons alone in a new country, led her to introspection and forgiveness, and that healing is at the core of every canvas. She draws on her own experience, confident that it will speak to other people’s.

The gallery

Andakulova Gallery, the article notes, works to bring the Middle East and Central Asia into conversation, re-introducing the art of Central Asia to Dubai and connecting artists, writers, specialists and collectors. Rima’s Lebanese-Canadian background, a meeting of East and West, suited that aim.
